Team/division description
TME R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market.
The “NV & Driveability” team is part of the Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) division and is responsible for the vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and harshness) according to EU customer expectations. We aim at the development of attractive and “fun to drive“ cars matching European market requirements and customer expectations. Using state-of-the art experimental and numerical methods, we develop strategies to achieve the targets, and validate them on virtual and physical prototypes.
Your project
As the market for hybrid and electric vehicles grows, so do customer expectations for a quieter interior. To meet these expectations, various acoustic components are integrated into the vehicle body. It is crucial to minimize the weight of these components to preserve driving range and to use sustainable materials to support our environmental goals.
In this internship, you will explore cutting-edge technologies and methodologies related to acoustic materials to help develop a more sustainable and efficient acoustic package for our vehicles. Specifically, you will:
- Develop measurement procedures and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the level of isolation and the sense of enclosure within the car cabin, effectively shielding occupants from external noise.
- Investigate the latest technologies to achieve this using both active and passive methods.
- Collaborate closely with our partners to study new technologies, focusing on acoustic performance, weight, and sustainability.
- Contribute to the development of virtual models to evaluate the impact of proposed technologies on vehicle acoustic performance.
- Perform acoustic testing in our anechoic chamber and on our test track to measure the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance of proposed technologies using prototype samples.
- Assist in developing future acoustic package strategies for Toyota’s Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), with a strong emphasis on weight and sustainability.
Work towards enhancing customer satisfaction by improving the cabin’s isolation experience.
